Ed,

Those are laser revenue numbers in $ and they don't look too bad.

The #'s posted represent dollars of laser sales in millions (including spares etc.) I think a good way to guestimate the number of actual # of lasers projected to sell would be to double the number of Millions estimated. (ie. $250 mil. equate to around 500 lasers projected to sell in 98'. Sounds about right based on the old sales #'s for the 5000 series @ about 450K/per.) Granted this estimate will be hard to use soon considering the increasing # of spares that is beginning to kick in and the higher sales prices for the 5010 series and the Orion laser coming out next quarter. I think the year 2000 projection could mean around 900 lasers all things considered. (in my unqualified opinion).

Am I to understand Cymer is forecasting 250 total units sold in '98. down from the earlier forecast of 640 units in '98.

I understood that graph to be in dollars ($millions), not units. The first figure is for total in the sector and the second is for lasers. That would make the '98 figure $250,000,000.

The 1997 estimate was $200 M and Cymer did $203 M. In other words, they single-handedly outpaced the world estimate.

Cymer's annual report, page nine, reads:

"From 1995 through 1997, Cymer experienced dramatic growth and increased annual system shipments from 34 to 145 to 460 units. In 1997, we were able to catch up with market demand and fill our customers' pipelines. Our growth potential will mirror the semiconductor industry's adoption of DUV, currently estimated to have a compound annual growth rate of approximately 28 percent over the next three to four years. With our current high volume manufacturing capacity, we believe that we can fully address total worldwide DUV lithography demand for excimer lasers. We will continue to refine our business infrastructure and processes to ensure that we can sustain whatever growth rate is needed to meet the demands of the market."

Regards,

Pat
