Bill,

Regarding market share, I understand that CyberTrader is used by Bloc Trading Inc, one of the largest (if not the largest) SOES trading firms in the country, something like 43 offices, probably 450 or more SOES traders nationwide using it. They seem to like CyberTrader a lot, and that seems like a good recommendation.

I formerly traded with A.B. Watley and used Realtic III then, I believe. I did not liked the way it looked, nor anything else about it. I did not find it stable or user-friendly. I am under the impression that M.B. Trading uses the same software, or at least something similar. That is why CyberTrader always appealed to me.

The pcAnywhere feature is good for troubleshooting, even for installing the software. But I just personally think it's a bit weak if it constitutes the only training one gets. I don't think it's sufficient. I think it's cheaper to do, but not better. It doesn't appeal to me. And it's certainly not what I was initially led to believe would take place.

Bill, I've never heard of Livetrade. What is it? Execution software? Another broker? Or what?

Thanks,

Bill

Re: CyBerTrader vs. RealTick

Bill,

I chose CyBerTrader over RealTick for 2 reasons. First, CyBerTrader incorporates several "day trading" features that are not available with RealTick - 52 week highs/lows, descriptive market maker changes in the tickers, crossed/locked market alerts, trader order flow, etc.

Second, I find that the overhead of RealTick in terms of memory and speed is greater than CyBerTrader. For example, during heavy trading, watch the update rate of market maker prices in the market maker (or Stock Box) window. Trading with RT, the screen updates never seemed to instantaneously refresh as they do in CT.

Interestingly enough, CT appears to use the same base software as RT. I saw some familiar images such as "talipc" - apparently CT uses Townsend Analytics' communications software and developed its software on top of that.

Sorry, but "security through obscurity" is a giant red flag for anyone with any background in computers.

Bill, I'm a computer guy. A serious computer guy. I had my own consulting company before I went to full-time trading. I had these same reservations, and went batty trying to explain that "intellectual property" to an extreme is detrimental to the customers psyche (i.e. If the company doesn't trust me with their software, how can I trust them with my money?)But, in the end, I decided that the product was necessary for me to trade. And their techs did a pretty clean install -- I'm anal about my setups, so I did a little cleanup afterwards. Trust me, from someone who knows exactly where you are coming from, you'll get over it, and eventually so will they...
