Well, there will certainly be some price pressure on the low to mid end for MPUs, but if you've seen the pricing for Xeon then it's clear what's going on. Besides that, all the CPU vendors are adding 128K to 256K of L2 cache to their designs, this means a large increase in die size with the resulting reduction in quantity produced. For instance, the AMD K6-2+ with 256K L2, is the same size as the 0.35æm K6. Mendocino, will be a high volume part, but much larger than Deschutes. Same with IDT and their different onboard L2 versions of the C6.

That overcapacity in CPUs has been visible for a long time, which is why I bailed out of AMD, CYRX/NSM, and INTC over a year ago.
