Re studying code in dumpsters, perhaps you're confusing that with studying the hex data dump of an assembly program.

Naaah, I'm not talking about reading a dump (I doubt Bill could do this), I'm talking about an anecdotal story I heard about Bill learning programming from old && discarded code that was actually fished out of the trash behind the CS department.

I do agree with your assesment of his technical abilities, and I actually agree with your assesment of his business abilities. I also think, however, that MSFT engages in business practicies that are stifle innovation and openness in the industry.
