Scanning over the last ten messages, thought i'd add my 2 cents !

Re: Win98
It's an incremential thing. Moving from Win95 to Win98 (RC0-build 1691 - 2-19-98) was good. Nothing amazing, moderate increase in speed, FAT32 ok. Enabled the 32 bit CardBus for 10/100 lan access, couldn't do that with Win95, no way. (Which segues to next point...)

Re: 10base-T
Spend the extra few bucks and go with 10/100. Had good luck with LinkSys cards. 3Com just costs more. Got a cheap autosensing 4 port hub, which you'd assume would allow mix of 10 and 100 components, WRONG ! Its either all 10 or all 100. The 100tx intracomputer speed really makes things snap, ie disk access on a remote looks like local drive. If you only have two machines, you can use a crossover cable in lieu of a hub.

Re: Quote software
Lots of names mentioned. If you're just looking for intraday real time charts, SuperCharts, Window on Wallstreet Day Trader, Omega are fine. Lots of choices in data vendors, shop around. Some caveats, Omega won't work with DTN, etc. Shop carefully, eval B4 purchase, get 30 day trial, etc.

If you're serious about daytrading, its unimaginable without Level 2 service, which none of the above support. If you're not trading with it, expect to pay $200-300 per month. Trading without L2 is possible, but similar to driving down Pike's Peak with a bag over your head. Most firms offer scaled pricing based on trade activity levels. MB Trading, Pristine, Alltech, etc. Cyber is geared for the more experienced, lots of features not found elsewhere, really demanding on bandwidth, most pros use dedicated frame relay vs internet. Several good threads here on SI, MB and Cyber.

Ya gotta spend some to make lots !
