, NEW YORK, May 18 (Reuters) - AT&T Corp is expected to
announce Monday that it has teamed up with Internet search firm,
Yahoo! Inc , in a deal that allows the phone company to
market its services on Yahoo!, the electronic edition of the
Wall Street Journal reported.
The paper said terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The deal is similar to ones made with other Internet search
firms two weeks ago, including Lycos Inc , Excite Inc
, and Infoseek Corp , the paper said.
Citing executives familiar with the plan, the Journal said
AT&T would also bring features to Yahoo's web site that blend
the Internet with more traditional phone services, such as
allowing a user to make a phone call to someone he or she meets
in a text-based chat room.
But unlike the previous agreements, the deal with Yahoo!
will not include the marketing of AT&T's WorldNet Internet
service.
MCI Communications Corp.'s spokesman, Brad Burns,
told the journal that it was no surprise AT&T would make a deal
with Yahoo!, and that his company is unfazed by it.
"AT&T is paying extraordinary dollars to tie up every
navigational guide," the paper quoted his as saying.
MCI signed an exclusive agreement in March to sell its
Internet Service on Yahoo!
