Christine, I don't know what post you read, but it sure was not mine. I never called the Jihad a Moslem group, what I did say was that they were a religious group or organization. As far as the KKK or other groups like them, they can be classified as religious as well. Consider the following from m-w.com

Main Entry: reúliúgion
Pronunciation: ri-'li-j&n
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English religioun, from Latin religion-, religio supernatural constraint, sanction, religious practice, perhaps from religare to restrain, tie back -- more at RELY
Date: 13th century
1 a : the state of a religious <a nun in her 20th year of religion> b (1) : the service and worship of God or the supernatural (2) : commitment or devotion to religious faith or observance
2 : a personal set or institutionalized system of religious attitudes, beliefs, and practices
3 archaic : scrupulous conformity : CONSCIENTIOUSNESS
4 : a cause, principle, or system of beliefs held to with ardor and faith

In the modern vernacular the word religion has a negative connotation. It implies a practice of a belief system that in many ways rejects other beliefs, or even prohibits ones entry into the religious system, i.e. Roman Catholicism. I believe in Jesus, so does the RCC, but they would not accept me as Catholic because I do not pray to the saints or to Mary.

It is because of this that I do not label myself as religious. People observing my lifestyle may label me as religious, and I could be called religious based on the above definitions, however I prefer to call my experience a personal relationship with the creator of the universe.

To answer you last question as to how I decide if someone is a Christian is simple. I look to see if they have a personal relationship with Jesus. Is this judgement? I do not judge a single soul on this planet, that is God's business. However, I do believe that God has given me a commission in this life, to share (communicate) the good news (gospel) of His Son. Christine you can trust the revelation from the Creator of the universe (the Bible). It is the supernatural, extraterrestrial, Word from outside our time/space domain. 66 books written by 40 authors over thousands of years and yet it all points to one event in history! The life and death of Jesus of Nazareth, who shed His blood so that you and I could have fellowship with our Creator. It's the simplistic nature of this message, which makes it so powerful. A stumbling block to those who do not "see" (spiritual blindness). God is waiting for you Christine. He stands and knocks at the door of your heart, wanting you to open that door and let him in. If you can do that in faith He will indwell you with His Spirit. The blinders will come off and you will see the universe in a whole new Light. You will see the world through the eyes of Jesus, who is the Light of the World.

Prayerfully yours,

Tom
