Del, my understanding of the fires in Mexico is that El Nino caused a drought there. When the drought was combined with the practice of burning land to clear it, and whatever other reasons there were for fires, everything just got totally out of control.

Now Denver is covered with a smoggy haze from the fires, and the smell of smoke. And sadly, a rain forest which has not been touched since the last Ice Age is burning. It is generally very humid there, but because of the drought everything just went up in smoke.
