UCC (Uniform Commercial Code) Security Agreements are very common. They are filed with the state and provide a public notice of an agreement of many types regarding usually personal property (personal chattles vs real estate for which there are other forms of recording). I bought an apartment house with 12 old refrigerators and the mortgage company had me sign a security agreement so I couldn't sell the refrigerators. (In the case of a foreclosure I might run off with the refrigerators and the tenants would move out because they couldn't keep their milk cold!!!!)
