I believe it is Harris. Why?

Michael; I asked one of the Orckit engineers this at a trade show a couple of years ago and he said they manufacture their own. FAQ seems to confirm that this is still the case <http://www.orckit.com/dsl_faq3.html> "Orckit is unique in that it also develops the core modem chip-set technology for the equipment systems." I believe Harris manufactures their VDSL chips. The Fujitsu marketing PR from May 6 mentioned Fujitsu would be manufacturing an ADSL chipset in conjunction with Orckit to be available in mid '98. [adsl silicon]

hi michael,

>>Who fabricates Orckit's DMT chips?<<

and for yet another variation...

believe lsi fabricates orctf's current (2nd generation) adsl silicon... on a contract basis... so as per dave k essentially orctf does their own and as he added...

fujitsu will be fabricating next generation... orctf and fujitsu announced their alliance for adsl silicon last august... but as this is orctf, my guess is that they were working together unannounced at least since late 96 ... believe the partnership is 50/50.. including shared developmental costs and shared revenues...

silicon is billed as a single chip mixed signal programmable fully custom asic... "featuring low power dissipation, small footprint, and high flexibility and manageability"... dsp functionality will be handled with a dsp core ... and chip will support dmt standard (issue II)

essentially the chip is a recasting of orctf's current two chip digital solution and analog front end (discrete components) into a single chip... as i understand it, fujitsu microelectronics' mixed signal research and development group in manchester uk has been doing the heavy lifting for the mixed signal side .. while orctf is taking the lead for the digital stuff...

silicon is due q3 or q4 and will be sold commercially by fujitsu microelectronics semiconductor sales channels "alongside its existing atm products".. as well as used by fujitsu/orctf...

also this silicon is expected to support g.lite.. and probably will be software upgradeable to the final g.lite standard... by software download on orctf platforms performed by remote management systems..

no updates on silicon progress for a while now... but find the latest fujitsu/orctf joint product development deal encouraging... if fujitsu didn't feel that the silicon were on track, ... doubt it they would have expanded the relationship for joint development of products based on this silicon.. but then again stranger things have happened..

best wishes
s
