FWIW here is a very unscientific study I did RE: SPX and the 55 day cycle.

THe following table indicates the number of days highs lasted. Data is from 1/2/90. Only trading days are counted. So this decade, a new high was surpassed the very next day 165 times. A new high was reached 1 day later 36 times, etc. There have been only eight times a high lasted more than 55 trading days, in those cases a new high was reached 63, 78, 82, 101, 111, 136, 148, and 261 days later.
