Bob, I don't know enough about Hawking's theories to debate them intelligently. I did find a very long and intellectual, but seemingly complete, answer in the sense that it explains Hawking's views thoroughly. It seems from a brief reading that Hawking is possibly a Deist, but definitely not a Christian:reasons.org There is no real concrete reason the universe had to be created. Perhaps it was random chance. How could there be an intelligent being who predated the beginning of the universe? There are a lot of questions, many logical and illogical answers, but no one really knows. Everyone simply has their own theory of how it all happened. Evolution is not only possible in this universe; it is scientific fact. I am not sure what you are really saying here. Can you disprove all evolution, scientifically? Whether or not God exists, I think it is really frightening to most men to believe they are alone on earth--that there is no higher power. It is not at all frightening to me, but I can understand how others feel. It was particularly scary for early peoples, who lived in cold and darkness much of the time, at the will of the seasons, not knowing even how far it was to the edge of the earth. So they made the planets powerful, and began telling stories of the creation to make order out of what they perceived as chaos. All religious beliefs fulfill the same needs--they are comforting and offer hope. Most men cannot accept that they die and are gone permanently from the earth, either. The ideas of reincarnation, heaven, and all the other mythologies of what happens when we die are simply comforting devices, beliefs that offer hope and give life meaning. It is fine if you want to believe in all these things, but I find it offensive that you continue to call me satanic because I do not share your belief system. Since Satan is a Christian creation, perhaps it is you who are Satanic. You certainly seem very concerned with him. But no one can be something they do not even believe exists, so it is really pointless to call non-Christians satanic.
