Madge Networks and Compaq Computer Corporation Form Strategic
Relationship in Token Ring Networking

WEXHAM SPRINGS, England--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 18, 1998--Madge Networks (NASDAQ:MADGF - news), a
world-wide supplier of networking solutions, and Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE:CPQ - news) have formed a new
strategic relationship allowing Compaq to incorporate Madge's advanced Token Ring technology in its future products. The
move significantly extends the base of Token Ring users who will use Madge technology in their networks.

Under the terms of the relationship, it is planned that certain Compaq Token Ring adapter products will incorporate Madge's
Ringrunner(tm) silicon technology and its unique single software driver technology to allow Compaq to offer its customers
powerful Token Ring solutions. Madge's software driver technology will enable Compaq customers to standardize on one
driver across Compaq's TI based Token Ring adapters.

''With Compaq and Madge Networks working together we plan to support and enhance Token Ring industry standards with
innovative products well into the future. We entered the new relationship with Madge Networks as we are impressed with
their products and technology, the company's leadership position in the Token Ring market, and its ease in doing business,''
said B. J. Johnson, vice president for Compaq's networking products.

''Compaq is committed to supporting its Token Ring customers and helping to advance the Token Ring market. Our new
relationship with Compaq is a winning situation for Compaq customers, as it combines the strengths of Compaq in the
corporate desktop and server market with Madge's strength in the Token Ring market,'' added Michael Wilson, vice
president of Madge Token Ring Solutions. For our part, the move provides Madge with additional channels to market our
technology, making Madge at the Token Ring desktop even more prevalent.''

Regards

Neil

Agreed, I've notices ads for stores other than Best Buy who once highlighted CPQ are not doing so at this time. Inventories must be under control although interest in CPQ pcs seems extremely strong.
