I do not think it necessarily wise to presume buying the puts in the next month during
expiration is wise. As I mentioned to Dom it used to be a no-brainer but not so any
longer.

you miss my point

I am not talking the generic concept that Dom is talking about....

I am talking if we are in a situation where the technicals are in a downtrend..but you see the MM's or the natural ebb and flow support the OEX more than the SPX...then buying OEX puts over SPX puts would be wise because when the drop happens the OEX leads or at least keeps up with the SPX

for instance...on the way down OEX was keeping up with the SPX or sometimes ahead (which is unusual) on the way back up this morning..the OEX was less than the SPX ...which is common...

however, if they are pricing the OEX puts off of the futures...it makes it harder to deal with the concept...however, today you see the reality of what they did in the expiration week...even if priced off of the futures...

the OEX is dropping equally as fast in numbers as the SPX

what they are doing to the options is another matter
