Isn't that due to cookies offered by the NYT? IE actually stores the passwords on the local hardrive independant of the site. NAV, for instance does not store passwords for SI.

My guess is it is a security issue as to why Netscape has not offered this option so far. Not sure if IE allows it to be turned off/on selectively depending on the site. I suppose it does. One would not want to be automatically logged on to a stock trading site for instance. I would like to see some form of this option on Navigator though.
