The key to this market is getting the cost out of the eyeglass display portion of the product. The recent XYBR announcement said that Sony's eyeglass display would sell for around $500. So when you add in the wearable computer and software and often wireless networking or PCS modem and corresponding host PC management software, this just isn't ready for prime time in going after volume consumer markets.

I agree that Sony is likely to eventually pursue their own consumer product. Until then, I expect them to make agreements with several market players for the sale of their eyeglass assembly. That approach makes sense: ramp up production from a variety of OEM deals and work the cost down toward delivering a consumer product in a couple of years.

The market is not ready yet, IMO, at least not anywhere near the current cost points, for a lot of consumers to be walking around looking like they were assimulated by the BORG.
