Abercrombie & Fitch Reports Sales and Earnings for the First Quarter <ANF.N> Abercrombie & Fitch Reports Sales and Earnings for the First Quarter 23rd Consecutive Quarter of Record Earnings Gains COLUMBUS, Ohio, May 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Abercrombie & Fitch (NYSE: ANF) today reported that diluted earnings per share for the first quarter ended May 2, 1998 were $0.12, compared to $0.01 for the comparable period ended May 3, 1997. Net sales increased 81% to $134.2 million from $74.3 million in 1997. Comparable store sales increased 48%. Operating income for the quarter increased to $10.3 million from $2.0 million. Net income increased to $6.3 million from $0.6 million last year. As previously reported on May 14, 1998, Abercrombie & Fitch is now being established as an independent company as a result of the successful completion of a tax-free stock exchange offer to Limited shareholders, who were given the opportunity to exchange some or all of their Limited shares for shares of A&F.
