<<Windows could be replaced in a day>>

Can some one post a url from where this is quoted? I hadn't
heard that one but I'm 99% sure it's being used out of context
on this thread....considering it took years for msft to get to win 1.0,
and that it was a laughing stock for many versions.

btw, nice alleged email. Even if it's true, which I don't doubt, so
what? If there's a viable option to replace Windows couldn't
ibm, cpq, dell, nscp/whoever pitch in to make it happen? Gawd,
msft was a small company when it had ibm ready to wipe it off the
map with os2..., I agree that msft shouln't get away with strong arm
biz practices, but msft had to go after a lot of companies much bigger
than they were for years.

I think netscape and sun succesfully duped some politicians into
making buffoons of themselves. Yeah, msft can have a mean edge
that may get trimmed a bit, but if you think that'll stop the great software
from coming.., it won't.

Dan,

>>I agree about the great theater, very entertaining part though. Great Microsoft innovation, making entertainment out of antitrust law.

Maybe its all just a production afterall; anyone else notice Bill's sudden chin-line at the Congressional hearing? At least the make-up people are involved. I guess being a partner in Dreamworks has its advantages.

Cheers,

Norm

Here's a quote from an anti-trust lawyer from Salon magazine
salonmagazine.com

I suspect many people will take note of one of the remedies -- the "must carry" provision, forcing Microsoft to carry Netscape. What they're saying is that because Microsoft has engaged in anti-competitive conduct, this "must-carry" is needed as a remedial measure to make up for the damage to competition already created by Microsoft. That's an important legal distinction. If anti-competitive conduct is found, the court has much broader scope to force the company that's engaged in monopolization to modify their business behavior to undo some of the ill effects of prior conduct ...
Here, the view would be Microsoft has crossed the line, and this is a way to fix the problem.
