Intuit shares may get a boost on Tuesday after the company said it earned
20 cents per share, a nickel better than analysts' expectations. In addition to
announcing its fiscal third-quarter results, the maker of personal finance
software (INTU) agreed to pay $400 million cash to acquire Lacerte, a
Dallas-based maker of professional tax-preparation software. During a
conference call, Intuit said the acquisition will be "highly accretive" to
earnings but declined to be more specific. Sales increased 21 percent to
$142 million, led by strong sales of Intuit's tax products. To follow up, Intuit
will detail its outlook in a breakfast meeting with analysts on Thursday in
New York. Shares slipped 7/8 to 45 ahead of the release.
