Advanced Fibre Communications Receives FCC Approval for Spread Spectrum Radio Solution
May 19, 1998 08:01 AM

PETALUMA, Calif., May 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Advanced Fibre Communications(R), Inc. (AFC) AFCI announced today that it has received Federal Communications Commission (FCC) approval for use, deployment and commercial sale of its UMC 1000 Spread Spectrum Radio (SSR) system operating at 2.4 Gigahertz (GHz).

Successful domestic and international field trials have been conducted with live traffic sent over the SSR span utilizing the UMC 1000 2.4 GHz transceiver. The 5.7 GHz SSR transceiver is currently pending FCC approval.

The initial system release provides a fully integrated radio option in two frequency bands, each capable of carrying 30 DS0 channels with full voice and data capability.

The UMC SSR transceiver (SSR-XCVR) is a point-to-point digital microwave radio transport that uses spread spectrum technology for license-free digital communications links.

"Our SSR solution effectively and easily provides a point-to-point bridge for T1/E1 telephony traffic at distances to 50 kilometers," says Victor Ivashin, manager of radio product design within the advanced research and development group at AFC. "This new product dove-tails into our existing and future UMC 1000 product series, providing the remarkable performance that our customers expect."

AFC's introduction of its UMC 1000 3GDLC(TM) Spread Spectrum Radio (SSR) solution adds yet another dimension to the transport and service flexibility of the UMC 1000 product family.
