Don't know why they say they paid/will pay/ might pay 10.00 a share...
I am really not that well versed in take-overs and buy outs, or perhaps this isnt one yet??? At any rate 58% is a major stake and since we have not seen the terms of the deal, it is hard to judge it. I suppose they will have to render that contract public at some point but for the time being the market is not liking it. The Trimble thread is a good place for info on GPS in general and Trimble in particular. It seems that so far, only a few areas in GPS are really making money while the other market segments are still necessitating heavy investments and R&D outlays with pay backs in the future ... The kind of economics Novatel was perhaps not strong enough to support long term, hence the Marconi stage entry. Like I said, the market is not liking it and that in itself is more telling than any other case I could hope to put forth for Novatel. This is a company that interested me a lot right around Dec, Unfortunately I didn't have all the funds necessary to buy in (having a lot of other shopping to do at that time) when they went down to 6.80 and then bounced back to 10.00 very shortly after that . I think this bit is history now and we are seeing new fundamentals and a very altered story here, so I won't try to catch it while it is falling with no bottom in sight.

Like someone illustrious said (forget the name), "I am not interested in the 20% at the bottom or the 20% at the top, I just want the 60% in the middle." Some rich dude it was that said that, I think. I mean, if you buy too early, you could be looking at some dead money for a while, the whole time knowing you could have bought cheaper...

Been there...

PS I suspect Canadian Marconi has some downside protection or perhaps they think that developing the technology would have cost them the same amount that they paid in shares , so they may care little about the price of the stock at this point, although I find that hard to believe. I'll stop speculating here and go back to "lurker mode".

we are not out of the woods yet, but thankfully looking better than monday!

wonder how much of the recent downdraft is due to the market makers letting stock freefall, then buying and flipping. also marconi is under pressure from its shareholders to show something positive for their investment. know that some strong representations have been made already. maybe some news forthcoming (positive) or perhaps marconi is averaging down their cost and is in the market doing some buying.
