This is an interesting article which addresses the subject of trading, employee options, etc... I think that much of this also applies to houses that underwrite financing for companies. The most interesting parts are toward the end of the article:

There are a few other interesting essays on this website. You can use the "Search for FAQ" at the bottom of the webpage to look for others. I don't know how reliable the website's info is, but it probably adds a couple of new angles to the debate on the meaning of certain kinds of trading patterns.
