TOKYO, May 19 (Reuters) - Mitsubishi Electric said on Tuesday it plans to start sample shipments of 256- and 128-megabit synchronous dynamic random-access memories (SDRAMs) for use in high-end servers, workstations and mainframe computers.

The SDRAMs will support PC100 SDRAM specifications defined by INTC.

It plans to start sample shipments of 128-megabit SDRAMs in July at a price of 12,000 yen a chip, and will start full-fledged shipments in the fourth quarter of 1998 with an initial output of 300,000 chips per month.

It will start sample shipments of 256-megabit SDRAMs in October with a price at 36,000 yen a chip, and will start mass production in the first quarter of 1999 with an initial monthly output at 100,000 chips.
