My interest was sparked by a couple of articles in science journals about progress in controlling the self induced magnetic fields which destroy superconductance. The 'gorilla' in the field - as in much solid state physics - is IBM. One of the collaborating companies mentioned was the American Superconductor Company. What seems notable is firstly, the apparent continuing progress in increasing the temperature at which superconductance occurs and the current carried, and secondly, the appearance of commercial applications, such as the filters for cell phone base stations. I was hoping there might someone knowledgeable in the field on the thread, but I'm happy to spend some time looking into the topic & share any ideas FWTMBW. However, my wife will be marking finals papers for the next few weeks, so I expect to be much occupied by childcare/housework. On another topic, Dupont has made an acquisition (not exactly its own choice) - biz.yahoo.com but how about Millipore (MIL) as a more tasty morsel ? Absolutely. There are a bunch of scientists in Hypres doing Josephson Junction based IC design there. Hypres is also running a fab to process superconductive IC. It is probably the only commercially available fab for Nb IC technology. You might want to check their homepage to find out more information: hypres.com It is not a public company.
