Have you been following Nortel's progress lately?

newsalert.com

The last paragraph reads:

The Universal Edge 9000 has a dual backplane design and supports any loop technology--including full-rate ADSL and ADSL-Lite, VDSL, 1-Meg Modem, and POTS. Nortel's Universal Edge supports a variety of North American standard switch interfaces--including TR-08 and GR-303--with an ETSI-ready architecture. Operations, Administration, Maintenance, and Provisioning (OAM&P) functions are performed by Nortel's Integrated Network Management (INM) Broadband platform and are also supported by other management platforms, such as SNMP.

I'm not sure what an "access platform" is, but I'm impressed with what it does.

I understand their 1-meg modem is pretty slick. They also have a funky little niche solution for hotels called EtherLoop. If you want any background material, I did a pile of research last night I could post.

Just keeping an eye on the competition.
