Travis,

Check out Apple's Software and Hardware Guide.

You'll find it to be quite helpful in your search.

Travis- site management tools-

Depends on the job.

I very much like Adobe Pagemill/sitemill. The WIN version is presently far superior to the Mac version, but the Adobe rep. says they are working on a mac update. The WIN version is quite intuitive, and mostly keeps you out of trouble. I feel I know what is going on with it, and the magazine reviews are always reviewing one rev behind Pagemill.

I also use Allaire Homesite which comes in Dreamweaver for WIN, and uses BBEdit for the Mac version. (I think I have this right. I use it at work on NT, not at home (mac)) The problem is, Allaire's Homesite is like a 48" chainsaw- a super powerful tool that will just as likely cut your leg off. The global search and replace can wreak havok if not VERY carefully applied- not for cub scouts, or even webelos- programmer class users, only.

If you have a serious and for real corporate site, check out NetObjects TeamFusion for collaborative web building. IBM bought them, recently. This thingy is optimized for maintaining graphical look and feel... I haven't used it, but heard some good stuff about it.

Other than that, you can go to the server level stuff, and that is server dependant!

<<HELP! does anyone know of a good site managment tool for both mac and pc? >>

I don't know of any site management tools that work cross-platform across networks.

There's Filewave on the Mac and there's MicroSoft SMS and Compaq's Insite Manager for Windows. Insite Manager will work only if you have a Compaq PC and preferably Compaq monitors, cards and other peripherals.

If there is such a cross-platform application, it would have to work on Ethernet of an NT server. I imagine few PCs connecting to Appletalk.

If there is no such item. I think there should be. As an MIS Manager, I would like to check the status of all machine connected to my network with one software. Filewave does a nice job of viewing info. I think SMS is better for actually managing machines and remotely installing software. I have no experience with the Compaq software, but here it's quite good.

HELP! does anyone know of a good site managment tool for both mac and pc? I spoke out against a
pc only one, but now have been asked to recommend another. I need one that is for a team of people
who work on a very high-end, complex site. Any recommendations?
