Just got a copy of the Forbes Global article which is longer. Some highlights:

But when Forbes last wrote about Berger he had a headache. Blockbuster was rapidly opening new franchises and putting a lot of Berger's customers out of business. Blockbuster just announced that in addition to buying videos from studios, it will also lease them from RENT and others, redistributing them to its franchisees. Blockbuster accounts for 25% of the U.S. video rental market.

Now Berger is going global. Most of the world's video stores-its a $114 billion plus (retail sales) business worldwide-still buy their tapes outright. RENT already has a joint venture operation in Japan, the world's No. 2 market. In early May, Berger signed a deal with Britain's Columbus Group to set up a joint venture in the world's No. 3 market with $1 billion in annual rentals. Next on the list, probably before 2000, are the Australia and New Zealand markets.

What other markets look promising? "We're interested in all of them" laughs Berger. "Our leasing system helps grow the overall industry, makes the customer less interested in obtaining a satellite dish and is a win for the retailer.

It is only a matter of time folks before the market recognizes what lies ahead for RENT. This is a $20 stock everyone despite what you see on the screen now.

PS-also a picture of Ron Berger with the caption "His enemy became his friend."
