That may be right, but there were consequences.

If I remember correctly IBM was forced to unbundle services from hardware and make public some of their interfaces, thereby allowing Amdahl, Hitachi and others to enter the mainframe market.

However, I am no expert and may have confused the names; we should look it up before discussing further.

Like I said, Mr. Nasdaq, your analysis lacks depth, not that that's uncommon here on issues of MSFT/IBM. Rick pulled the plug on the big suit, but IBM lost plenty of other battles on the way, and modified their business practices considerably. That just shows how stupid they were, of course, compared to Brilliant Bill and the rogues of Redmond. We've heard that many a time here.
