To the Streets Frank to the Streets T as the article is refering to will offer voip chat rooms sorta like the VOCLF chat areas that it began. It will be a wild and wooly mess I imagin. Can you imagine what is going to go on.I suppose it won't be moderated so I assume its going to get nasty.YHAOO will probably offer click and dial to local ip voice servers also.T should come to this as I believe DT is going
to offer this from SEEK I hope.Sorta like the DELL button on the SE's
You know the downsizing is really taking awack out of T.I did their CWAN switch conversion and the lucent cut up and we were thin then.Today A friend said more then 20,000 people up from 14,000 will take the package. Some just don't want to hang around. They either got the years or they take the one time and run.T will move all ip based support to solutions except for low level daily geo type support. The lab in menlo will offer a diverse take on where T wants to goe.The IP and web based people are looking for jobs here as the raligh unit begins to take controll.T will offer all ordering and changes as well as calls and IP calls isp and media functions and orders on the web. That will save them another 2 billion in 5 years. The ss7 switch problem though could be rectified using Tunneled IP but they have problems with real time applications that depend on the old tech for polled responses. The old soft and firmware can be bypassed but there
are too many already paid for and cost/effective areas that make too much profit for the business units.Their plan is to eliminate as much of the labor as they can. That includes everybody.T's idea of 99 % up time and double redundency as you saw was very badly disrupted by Cisco's little ospf fiasco.Their network management something to be desired.T's people all want to retire and as a result they have a lot of newbies and wanna bes that have no mng or network design expertise.
For T to move into this area full force will undoubtly bring about rapid change in the arena. The rbocs will also have to jump as T brings local to residential via the web. This will happen very soon in early 99 i think. No regulation in the VOIP forum will get world net into several million homes and let them offer everything.
