There are both similarities and differences. Population is with reference to environment, and we are masters at shaping our environment. The rats are not.

Add more and more government to the human response, dang rats and fruit flys are smarter than that.

Actually the crime rate is DROPPING. It really only went up in the first place because the government made much illegal that used to be legal and formerly outstanding citizens were suddenly criminals.
