Bill, you get style points for a one-word post followed by another with an explanation. The lessening of the fear is why I think Apple has a chance to get back to 6-10%. But not for another year. And after that I think Apple will need some sort of Windows convergence or else start back into the downward spiral. Richard, I am getting plenty of anecdotal evidence of people who will be going for the iMac and can also think of others who could be convinced as it is the right machine for them. We shouldn't forget the internet button on the front of the machine--does make it more appliance-like. Linda, oh, I think it's pretty easy to guess what Jobs' intentions were with that stock sale. Look at the timeline. Herb, thanks for comparing the Compaq stuff down the line. One other Apple advantage that will become more apparent is that Macs are no longer sold only at MSRP. The deals in the back of MacAddict are amazing. I think the new baseline is 10% below list price. Why pay more? I bet you'll find sub-$1199 iMacs by December and this discounting is more ammunition when the PC side likes to talk about $800 boxes. Apparently, Amelio's book is selling extremely well for a book of that type, over 30,000 copies so far according to TechWeek. "Unlike Will Rogers, Amelio apparently met few people he did like." Another book on Apple is due in a month--Infinite Loop: How Apple, the World's Most Insanely Great Computer Company Went Insane. Anyone have a feel for how UMAX's loss of license will benefit Apple? Do we think UMAX is only selling 10,000 boxes a month? Less? Also, has anybody seen an Apple flat panel display at a store yet? Is it *really* shipping? My two local Mac stores won't have demos, at least not "for a couple of months." Marc
