re: these cos. warrant higher valuations than AMAT

people will pay a higher PE for safety, visibility, and a good balance sheet, in addition to EPS growth. I know, for a certainty, that AMAT will be around 5 or 10 years from now. Can't say that about the little guys.

I have my 403B in the fidelity select electronics. Was holding the Health Care fund before and during the meltdown, and switched a bit before the bottom. 403B money has to be in a mutual fund, no choice. The health care stocks I own have done consistently better than the Fidelity fund, and same for my semi/semi-equip stocks vs. the fidelity electronics fund. However, I've spent a lot more time managing my stocks, and their volatility has been greater. When I leave my employer, I'll rollover to an IRA and buy stocks.

Brian: I have no money in these funds. I get the reports on an informational basis only.

Re: "Back to my original train of thought, it's really quite amazing how these guys manage their $$."

FWIW, I invest in individual stocks to a large extent to avoid this mentality. It is my money even when it is in their fund. I prefer to buy stocks on my own terms as to timing and as to company like many here on SI. Unlike fund managers, I don't have to be a hero to get a bonus.

Nothing against those funds or the managers.
