Having a common standard for spreadsheet files WOULD impede
the advancement of spreadsheet technology. Don't you suppose
they'd have to change the format from time to time to accommodate
the changes in the functionality? Would you stick with a standard
at the cost of functionality?

But I did design the formulas and the custom code behind my Excel app that makes it do the fancy financial stuff that it does. If one vendor is forced to open up its code, the others should be as well. I for one don't believe in a socialist state.
