Don't forget to mention that if you take a loss on stock you can't buy it back, or go long on some calls, because it is on the same side of the market, for 30 days. Otherwise, it is considered a "wash" and you cannot take the loss. Many people know about buying the stock back, most do not realize you can't buy the calls.
