First off, why did you get it if you don't use it? bad sentence, right?
Wrong. I got it because it was bundled with my PC. I did not have a choice to not get it. As a matter of fact, I believe that part of the anti-trust case is about Office and how it is licensed, resulting in just this scenario.

Secondly, you obviously don't remember what the individual apps
used to cost. Excel, alone, listed for ~$500, for years.

Yes, but it was Borland that brought down the costs. The only reason you aren't paying $500 now is because Excel has a semblance of competition (at least when one is given a choice of a competing solution).
