AMD spent $650 MILLION DOLLARS to buy NexGEN. They have poured another $400 Million into Fab 25 to make the K6, above and beyond the original budget.

All told, they have spent a minimum of a BILLION DOLLARS on the K6 development - probably more than Intel spent on the Pentium II development.

I am also neglecting the hundreds of millions of dollars poured into the K5 which netted AMD ZILCH.

Check AMD's balance sheet carefully - you'll see the enormous resources spent by them trying unsuccessfully to keep up with Intel.
