Darrell,
A reporter on CNBC this morning, about 7, said "Dell has beat the estimate by an average of $.03 for the last (x) quarters (don't remember the actual number she used) so I guess the whisper number is .45." If this is the level of analysis that goes into that mysterious number we would all be better off ignoring it.

Dell Computer's Profits Rise 54% On Exceptionally Strong Sales

Dell Computer Corp., on the strength of exceptionally strong sales, said fiscal first-quarter profit soared 54% to $305 million more than the personal-computer profits earned by International Business Machines Corp., Compaq Computer Corp., Hewlett-Packard Co. and Gateway 2000 Inc. combined. Dell's revenue jumped 51%, and company executives said they believe it passed IBM to become the world's second-biggest seller of PCs, behind Compaq.
