bucky, the Globeview would compete more with the 550, not the 500. It, like the 550, is ATM only, not multiservice. However, the 550 would be more adaptable to multiservice in the future. However, I do agree that the 500 and 550 would compliment (obsolete??) the Globeview.

Yurie's main product (only product??) is an ATM concentrator. A relatively small box that takes DS0, DS1, T1/E1, and maybe T3/E3 and funnels all data into an ATM stream(1.5, 45, or 155). This is a direct competitor to ASND SA line.

Livingston and ASND RAS/RAC are pure overlap.

I just have to question why LU would buy Livingston and Yurie, when they could have got the whole shabang by just buying ASND. I think they took their shot at ASND but missed, late last year.

At this point, FORE may be a better fit for LU than ASND. They would get quality ATM, and E-NET switching to boot. Still have the overlap with an ATM concentrator though. That Yurie purchase still has me puzzled. Maybe they just will continue with relatively small purchases, just a lot of them.

NT is trying very hard right now to emulate Ascend with their Passport/Magellan ATM switches. They haven't been successful yet, but they are trying very hard.

BTW aren't these FORE switches that Nortel just re-sells?
