I'll make it simple for you. Throw out EPS, shrs
outstanding, shrs bought back, etc. and look at
revenues and earnings, period, to see which way
this company is heading.

When you look at it like this, it's not terribly difficult to
get a sense of how they're really doing.

Pat, at the end of the fourth quarter there were 706MM fully diluted shares o/s. Assuming that this figure remained the same in this quarter, the eps would have been $305/706=$.432/share. That compares to the actual of $.436/share. This is only an approximation because we have not been provided with a statement of equity.

Dell makes nothing on buybacks. Stock repurchases do not run through the income statement. The simply appear as a debit item in "treasury stock" which is included in the equity section.
