Cadence moves into embedded software services
eet.com

SAN JOSE, Calif. - Looking for new hardware and software design worlds to conquer, Cadence Design Systems Inc. will take the wraps off of its Embedded Software Services Group next Monday. The group, which employs over 100 engineers, has been a closely guarded secret for the past six months.

The creation of the group has been underway since late 1997, said Bill Murray, the group's director of marketing. At that time, Cadence management gave vice president Doug Fairbairn, who also serves as president of the Virtual Socket Interface Alliance, the charter to determine the role that Cadence should play in the embedded market, especially on the software side. After reviewing the market and developing a plan, the company began assembling the base of workers it would need to operate a software services operation.
