You still don't get it. Standard Oil "lowered prices across the board" also. They still got busted. Consumers don't benefit when competition is restrained, no matter how "benevolent" the monopolist's pricing is.

That's exactly the point of anti-trust law. Consumers wouldn't benefit if the US aerospace industry faded away because our single remaining player couldn't compete. That's what happens when there isn't robust competition. There must be an on-going process of creative destruction, just like in nature. That's how applied science stays strong, products remain relevant, and the economy remains stable. Checks and balances. Progress. Equal opportunity.

No othey would not. If boeing dropped the prices of planes across the board the consumer would have benefitted. If they raised priced, the DOJ may have a say, but so would the market by going over to Airbus. <<<

BTW, does it bother you that there is a monopoly in the airliner production business, a cartel in the air transport business, and when an airplane gets in trouble in just tunnels in and crumples up like tissue paper? Has it ever occurred to you that engineers might know how to make these much, much better? Ever wonder why race car drivers can walk away from 200 mph collisions and you die when the plane tunnels in at 150? There isn't much quality, is there?

Have you ever asked if the luggage should become projectiles, if there should be no backup system if the engines fail, if the airframe shouldn't have some strength? Instead of having two more rows of seats to increase profits. Getting tired of being sprayed with insecticide on international flights (if you knew)? Catching the flu from recirculated air? (saves money)
