LEE, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 20, 1998--Wave Systems Corp.
(OTC BB:WAVX.O) (http://wave.com/company) today announced the signing of
an agreement to include its WaveMeter(R) onto upcoming versions of
Windows'98 compatible WinTV(R) television tuner boards from Hauppauge
Computer Works, Inc., a subsidiary of Hauppauge Digital, Inc. (NASDAQ:
HAUP). Under terms of the agreement, Hauppauge plans to include the
WaveMeter on selected models of its popular WinTV boards, for
availability before the end of 1998.
Hauppauge is the leader in broadcast receiver products for
personal computers. Hauppauge's new line of WinTV tuner boards,
designed for use with the new Microsoft operating system,
Windows98(R), will also support the WebTV(R) for Windows features
built into Microsoft's Windows98. The boards are used by PC owners to
watch TV on their screens, receive Intercast(R) data broadcasts and
utilize a broad collection of bundled content media from Wave Systems.
Wave's innovative electronic software distribution model provides
the PC software community flexible pricing, and the WaveMeter
technology included on WinTV tuner boards will allow the decoding of
any Wave-enabled content, whether received as a data broadcast via
cable or broadcast television, the Internet, CD, DVD, or floppy
diskette distribution. "We are excited to have our metering and
encryption technology included into Hauppauge's TV tuner card
products," said Steven Sprague, president of Wave Systems Corp. "By
bundling top quality software titles with Hauppauge's existing
products, we now offer the consumer a broad range of choices and
capabilities."
"The addition of Wave Systems' WaveMeter technology to our WinTV
boards will allow users to conveniently receive premium content on a
pay-per-use basis via data broadcast services," said Ken Aupperle,
president of Hauppauge Computer Works, Inc.
Wave Systems enables the distribution of encrypted content via
broadband, Internet, satellite transmission, CD-ROM and DVD while also
providing the needed end-user content subscriber management system.
Wave's software system allows users to take advantage of content
rental, purchase, pay-per-use and rent-to-own payment models directly
from their desktops with a click of a mouse. Consumers receive the
flexibility of paying for information based upon their actual usage,
while publishers benefit from significantly reduced marketing and
distribution expenses and the ability to reach new end user target
markets.

Re: EEE....There has been some discussion myself included) regarding the location, size, and emphasis regarding Wave's booth (#2054, 50' x 50') at EEE. I went back and viewed it's location. As we mused it is immediately adjacent to CREAF's booth (#2040, 50' x 60') and we know of Wave's relationship to CREAF (Press Release 3/12/97- "Creative Technology Chooses Wave Systems Corp. for Micro-Transaction Selling and Purchasing;WINPurchase and WINPublish are key components for the New Creative Inspire Electronic Community"). However, I was also interested to see that the Mcgraw-Hill booth (#2440, 20' x 40') was just down the aisle (Press Release 10/2/97- "McGraw-Hill Home Interactive and Wave Systems Corp. to Sell Multimedia Educational Content on the Internet; Content Also to be Offered on Planned CD-ROM Bundles"). Further, in the same neighborhood is the Ziff-Davis booth (#1439, 50' x 50') (Press Release 6/27/97- "Great Stuff Network and Yahoo! Internet Life Magazine Unite to Provide Discount E-commerce Subscription Service", This release has the pertinent quote "...With our technology and continued partnerships with leading companies such as Yahoo! Internet Life and Ziff-Davis, The Great Stuff Network will be a part of that future." said Steven Sprague, president of Wave.)
It could be a coincidence that these booths are in close proximity but perhaps not. As for the other booths in the area of Wave's, I couldn't link those exhibitors to Wave via their registered names but perhaps others of you can. You might point your browsers that way to see if your memories are jarred into remembering something.
In the meantime, along with everyone I look forward to the next few days and the upcoming EEE.
