It's an amateur's myth that one cannot short a non-marginable security. So long as one has abundant funds in ones cash account, you can short the equity with quite a few brokerage firms. Intra-day shorts are even easier. If you have to carry it over night, that may require some paperwork. Besides, the marginable status varies from brokers to brokers.

I suggest you go over to the Nasdaq Trader site to read up on shorting rules if you are inclined to further your education in that area.
