Market share information (guesses) from previous SFAM cc for 1997: 1. SFAM - 22 - 25% market share and growing. 2. AMAT - small but increasing. 3. Ebara - 22 - 25% and increasing. 4. IPEC - 50% or under but decreasing. Overall, CMP market is growing. AMAT now claims to have a "leadership" position in CMP in Morgan CNBC interview. No market share figures provided by AMAT. Given the above, is AMAT overstating its hand so as to make its claimed position a reality? Interesting.

<<SpeedFam is in a market share nose dive right now. 1. AMAT is gaining market share in oxide, SFAM's alleged strength. 2. Ebara is gaining share in Asia in oxide. 3. IPEC is doing well in metal - tungsten for now - and in the futurecopper. SFAM is getting beat-up in copper right now. In fact, their machine just can't do it. I think they're in a world of hurt. AMAT's share gains are basically SFAM's loss. Lam has no market share because as far as I know they haven't shipped a machine yet. Lam's (Ontrak's) story all along has been that they believe they have a superior technology....only time will tell.>> Please cite the sources for your conclusions. Then maybe myself and other SFAM thread followers can digest the "facts" and come to our conclusions. Nothing wrong with your opinions....just want to understand how you got there and on what basis.
