Q: Anyone knows the reason why INTC is taking a beating today?

The guys responsible to buy back shares are all down there partying at the shareholders' meeting. No one left is fending off the ruthless on-slaught by analysts.

Analog Devices Off 15% On Weak 2Q Net, 3Q Forecast

Dow Jones Newswires

NEW YORK -- Shares of Analog Devices (ADI) plunged nearly 19% Tuesday after the chip maker reported lower-than expected fiscal second-quarter earnings and said it expects third-quarter results to be flat sequentially.

The Norwood, Mass., company posted net income of 28 cents a diluted share for the second quarter ended May 2, compared with 25 cents a year earlier and a First Call consensus estimate of 32 cents. Revenue increased to $333.1 million from $300.8 million in second quarter 1997.

Due to "the uncertain near-term outlook for the semiconductor market," third-quarter revenue and earnings should be flat with or slightly higher than the second quarter, Analog Devices said.

The company sees some improvement in the fourth quarter.

Analog Devices, which had hit a 52-week high of 39 5/8 on April 30, was recently trading at 27 3/8, down 6 3/8 or 18.9% on volume of 4 million shares, compared with a daily average of 1.1 million.
