Forte Chosen for Ease of Java Integration, Mission-Critical Support

OAKLAND, Calif., May 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Forte Software, Inc. (Nasdaq: FRTE) today
announced that QAD Inc. (Nasdaq: QADI) has selected the Forte Application Environment(TM) to
develop components of its Java-enabled On/Q global supply chain management applications. QAD,
which reported $172 million in revenue for fiscal 1998, is a worldwide leader in manufacturing,
distribution and financial management software with over 3600 customers in more than 80 countries.

A key requirement for QAD was Forte's(R) ability to easily integrate with Java and business objects,
which are critical elements of advanced supply chain management solutions. In addition, since QAD
supports customers around the world, Forte's concurrent support for multiple languages and currencies
was essential.

"To address the changing requirements of businesses today and tomorrow, QAD On/Q software must
support high transaction volumes and complex processes," said Pam Lopker, chairman and president
of QAD. "We were impressed with Forte's open, object-oriented architecture and standards-based
interfaces, which are essential for meeting our customers' needs. In addition, we appreciated the
productivity gain inherent in Forte's integrated development environment."

"QAD is widely acknowledged as a leader and innovator in enterprise resource planning and extended
supply chain software," said Marty Sprinzen, president and CEO of Forte Software. "We're extremely
pleased that Forte will play a central role in bringing its new global supply chain management product
to market."

About On/Q

On/Q applications are designed to convert manufacturing organizations into fast reacting,
customer-focused enterprises. They combine high-volume, complex order processing, transportation,
and contract management with enterprise procurement, plus the ability to interoperate with advanced
planning, scheduling, and optimization applications. These applications leverage new technologies such
as Java and business objects to provide an effective adaptive framework that extends both throughout
the company's enterprise and beyond it into the realm of supplier and customer enterprises. On/Q
builds on QAD's industry-leading MFG/PRO Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software, a
comprehensive, open, flexible, scalable supply chain solution designed to address the operations
requirements of today's manufacturers.
