MARDEN---Dow Jones Newswires -- May 20, 1998 Lucent In 4-Yr, $1B Pact To Supply Optical Networking Equip MURRAY HILL, N.J. (Dow Jones)--Lucent Technologies Inc. (LUC) will support a global, undersea cable network through a four-year agreement worth about $1 billion with a New Jersey fiberoptic network company. In a press release Wednesday, Lucent said it will be the exclusive provider of land-based optical networking equipment and installation services for CTR Group Ltd.'s Project Oxygen, which will cover every continent except Antarctica. Lucent received a contract for part of the first phase of the project, in which CTR will build 158,000 kilometers of fiber-optic cable with 101 landing points reaching up to 74 countries and locations. Lucent plans to bid on the rest of the project as well. CTR plans to complete part one of the project's first phase in late 2000 by linking major trans-Atlantic and trans-Pacific routes, as well as installing a land link across North America. The entire phase 1 should be complete by 2002. Lucent plans to deliver its equipment and software by early 1999. MARDEN ---JUST RESTATED BEST WISHES BILL
