Informix Restates First Quarter Fiscal 1998 Results

MENLO PARK, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 20, 1998--Informix Corporation (NASDAQ:IFMX - news) today
announced that is has restated its financial results for the first quarter ended March 31, 1998. Restated revenues for the first
quarter were $161.0 million, up 7.9% from revenues of $149.2 million in the first quarter of fiscal year 1997. The Company
reported net income of $1.811 million, or net income of $0.01 per share, compared to a net loss of $144.2 million, or a net
loss of $0.95 per share in the first quarter of fiscal year 1997. After attribution of income to a preferred stock dividend and
value assigned to warrants, the Company reported a net loss of $0.4 million, or $0.00 per share.

For the first quarter of fiscal year 1998, the Company had recognized revenue from software license agreements with industrial
manufacturers in the same manner as revenue resulting from agreements with end users. Ernst & Young LLP, the Company's
former independent accountants, recently concluded that industrial manufacturers should be treated as resellers, and not as end
users, for purposes of the Company's revenue recognition policy.

The Company believes that it is in the best interests of its shareholders to resolve any possible questions about the conservatism
of its revenue recognition policy, to preclude any concern about the propriety of its financial statements going forward, and to
allow management to continue to devote its energy to developing the business of the Company. The Company decided to
restate its first quarter financial results immediately after its former independent accountants communicated their conclusion. As
a result, revenue for the first quarter was reduced by approximately $6.2 million, which the Company estimates will be
recognized over approximately a two-year period. The Company estimates that revenue from that class of transactions
represented approximately 3% of total revenue recorded in fiscal years 1995, 1996 and 1997. About Informix
