Is anyone else fascinated by Chambers' posturing about the end of attempts to partner with LU or NT? God, it's like Clash of the Titans.

My take? LU and NT really believe they can dominate in the networking space. LU believes it is starting fresh and won't have legacy areas (i.e., hubs, switches, NIC, routers, etc.) about which CSCO has to worry about cannibalization. In addition, LU/NT have learned from CSCO and want to recreate its success of buying bleeding edge start-ups and melding them into the dominant force in the industry. On the other hand, CSCO believes it can leverage its networking and IP expertise/dominance into the telecom/carrier/ISP world where LU/NT have legacy systems which need to be replaced.

It seems that LU/NT watched the data networkers become much bigger and more important than they ever dreamed possible, and they're now playing catch-up.

How does this impact ASND? ASND seems well-positioned in the WAN/RAC areas key to success in the new era of IP backbone, ATM edges, VoIP and DSL. Of course, ASND still needs to execute on its immense opportunities as well as CSCO/LU have done. djane
