While I do some medium term trading, I'm overwhelmingly a long term investor. I have bought and held gstrf for example, a great deal of it, with an average price in the very low 40s. Other longer term holdings include Csco, Dell, Wcom, Ctxs, Neta, Ala. Psft, Wind, Hboc, and Rmbs, though purchased within the last few months, will no doubt move into that category. I held Intel for three years for more than a triple, but, not having sufficient religion, I guess, decided to sell almost a year ago due to a belief that things had substantially changed for the worse and would stay that way for a while. (Not enough demand for the higher speeds in the mainstream to sustain margins.) I have sold out of qcom three times over the last year due to execution missteps on the part of Q managment (twice), and intense Korean exposure revealed (once). I sold Qcom in the low 60s when Korean exposure (or the degree of it) first became apparent in January and predicted it would go quite a lot lower. It went as low as 46+ within a few weeks. A look at the two year chart will indicate what sort of buy and hold stock Qcom has turned out to be over that period. I've made money every time. I last got out immediately after their last conf. call at 58.5 when I learned about the widespread manufacturing quality problems with the 820 phone and consequent widespread returns, etc. I haven't lost hope in them, but saw every reason to get out. It hasn't closed above where I sold since I did a month ago or so. I certainly have made quite a bit of money in the other stocks I moved into instead since then. Including Tlab and Ctxs. But hey, I'm not saying I'm always right. I'm not. I've been completely candid about my positive, as well as some skeptical feelings about Qcom on that thread. The Qcom thread has a real tendency towards engineering love of Qcom's technology and true beliverism. On the other hand, it is also full of very intelligent and knowledgeable commentary on Qcom and a wide variety of somewhat related issues. A nice place to hang out on occasion. Having said all this about the Q, the Mexican auction wins have me possibly poised to get back in. I just pray that the manufacturing problems are behind them. Oh, and re: Loral. I bought 20 2001 leaps in Lor at very near Monday's bottom. Would have bought more but the market moved a lot on even my purcases - was very little open interest before Monday. Both the 25s and 30s are well above (on the asked) where I bought them, despite today's downdraft. Not planing to sell them for years. Waiting to buy more, or more stock. Doug
